5 Website Design Mistakes To Never Make.
Discover 5 website design mistakes to never make in this article!
5 website design mistakes you should always avoid! (Important!!!). Website design software is everywhere, and so are website design companies.
You can even design your own website for free, if you desire, on many different site builders. WordPress is one of the best. (Personal opinion 🙂 ). You can start for free, and at any time, change your free account into a paid account.
Considering the many options that exist, it’s completely understandable that small business owners often feel a sense of confusion when it comes to building a website. Falling for “someone” who calls himself an expert, and paying huge amounts of money, to let them build you a website. (Or in many cases, you let them screw your website up, in advance. As many of these “experts” have no clue on what they are doing.. There is actually a certain program. They are claiming to instantly turn “anybody” into a website building expert. Of course these people get the main picture on how to build a website. But; there is a lot more involved, than you can learn in a couple of video courses. To know if your “expert” is really an expert.. You have to know what is important for a website, to become a succes. Do you know what kind of questions you need to ask? Then there is still the question, “how is this expert going to handle the whole SEO part?”. The opinions are severed, on this subject. Honestly, you could do this yourself. And pay people to do certain (time consuming) parts of the job, is a cheaper, and more smart option). Some parts of a website are very important, to be exactly as they should be, to recieve the respect of the SE.
While there are many of these extremely desirable elements to website design; there are also some things you should avoid.
Here are five website design mistakes you should avoid at all costs:
Mistake #5: Using PDF Files Instead of Pages (No!!!).
It might seem like a good plan to scan existing documents into pdf format. And then upload them into your website.
When you provide visitors with a link to click. Up comes your pdf. Does that sound good? Attractive, simple, and quick?
NO! People hate finding pdf’s on websites. Think about it for a second.. Would you appreciate and prefer pdf’s on a website?
Their loading is often very time consuming, and they are many times difficult to read.
Take the time to create a new page that contains the pertinent information. The search engines will appreciate this lots more, as will your readers/visitors. The first impression is essential. Since most visitors decide in seconds to read on, or leave a website.
You can build links and backlinks, add great photos, and make your page a pleasure to visit instead of an annoyment.
Annoyed visitors WILL leave a site and look for a better one. So be sure to permanently skip the pdf’s.
Mistake #4: Using Book-like Texts (Boring!)
People want and need information fast. Actually, they demand to receive the answer to their questions, or the solutions for their problems, at the spot. They will simply (and most of all, quickly) scan your website. In seconds they decide to either leave, or read on. In these seconds, you have to make sure that they will find what they are looking for. Or at least, the feeling, that you have this answer written here. And that all they have to do is read on. To quickly discover the answer to their prayers.
Keep the next couple of rules in mind:
• Never in any ways make your site look like the page of a book. Make sure that there are eye catching pieces. And that it looks interesting and clear.
• Use photos and video`s. Vary the text size to highlight different areas of your page. Use bold and underlined texts. Use the headings. Try some colour. (Figure out what colours mean in sales first!).
• Use bulleted lists, or numbered lists. Use quick paragraphs with headers that tell the visitor what they will find under the specific heading.
• Make your site interactive. Use social media share buttons for instance. Ask questions. And add a reaction section, so people can share their opinion. Make sure your visitors have fun when they (re)visit your site, your site will be more succesful.
Mistake #3: Building A Flashy Site That Is Too Complicated For Users To Navigate
You can have the most beautiful looking website in the world, but without elements that are properly built using proven website design techniques, your site will be just more pretty pictures – and the internet is full of those!
People want to go to a site, find what they are looking for, and leave.
The better and faster the internet gets, the faster people expect sites to work.
Mistake #2: Preventing Smartphone Users From Accessing Your Site
This is a relatively new mistake in website design, and if you’ve got a website now, it’s worth looking into.
Can people who surf the web on their iPhone, Droid, Blackberry or other smartphone get into your site?
Can they find what they’re looking for, and navigate well?
If not, your site needs first aid. Fast.
Mistake #1: Not Hiring A Professional To Handle Website Design
You might want to help your buddy who is learning about website design build his portfolio by building you a website, and while that might be OK if he has some experienced guidance…
it also might ruin your chances of ending up with a great site that is both user friendly and high ranking.
These days, website design is about a lot more than looking good.
Hire a professional, and your site will do exactly what you need it to – gain you business, and increase your bottom line.
